A dog found in the trash at a Dumpster
Tuesday, Nikki Rubino and roommate Rob Rossi made their way to the Cobbs Creek Recreation Center. Rubino had been tagged in a Facebook post about a dog found in the trash at a Dumpster outside the South 63rd Street facility.
“Animal rescue is sort of my thing,” explained Rubino, who was a vet tech for six years. “I knew I couldn’t hesitate for who knows how long until animal control got there. That would have been a death sentence for him due to his extensive injuries.”
What they found was horrifying...
“When we got there, he couldn’t even move and I thought he was dead,” she recounted. “I tugged on the small piece of string attached to his neck that attached him to a pole. He turned his head and gave me the saddest face.”
Though people donated money to help Charlie in the day-and-a-half since his discovery, the hospital won’t accept it directly. They’re taking care of him for free with donations going to City of Elderly Love: Save a Senior Pet instead.
Now, the search is on for whomever left a dog for dead near Cobbs Creek Rec. Instantly, there were promising leads. If you have any information regarding this case please report it to Pennsylvania SPCA Animals’ humane law-enforcement unit.
